I know I’m not the first to break this to you …. but over the years, we have been spending way too much money on those expensive body washes (soap that just goes down the drain …ugh).
I know we all want to smell good and be all soft for our husbands. But spending $5.00, $6.00 or even more on body wash puts a huge dent in our budgets. Especially, if you have kids like I do that really like to make a slip and slide in the shower or that like to make the most bubbly of bubble baths.
Any of y’all that know me or have read any of my posts knows that I try to be as frugal as possible (translation … HUGE penny pincher). Spending money on anything that isn’t absolutely necessary really hurts my feelings and makes me want to cry (It’s sad… I know).
So trust me when I say… I absolutely hated spending gobs of money on body wash to be squirted down the drain a bottle at a time.
That’s until my husband had the most ingenuous idea. We could still have the luxuries of body wash without the high price tags and teary eyes.
I mean no one wants to give up that oh- so- easy dispensing of a squeeze bottle that gives you just the right amount of soap for the job.
No one wants to deal with that old goopy dirty bar of soap on the bottom of the tub. (Yuck!!)
So what was that genius idea of Mr. Southern’s you ask … DISH DETERGENT!!!
Yep….you heard that right. Plain ole ordinary dish detergent.
You see what had happened was… when our kids were little, they got dirty – Really dirty. Just like all kids when you take them outside for the day. They would have dirt in every crack and crevice of their bodies. Well, our usual cutesy, smell-good $6.00 bottle of body wash just wasn’t cutting it with these dirty little monsters.
So, my husband ran to the kitchen and grabbed the dish liquid (we had Dawn at that time … plain old- school blue Dawn) and gave a good ole hefty squeeze into the bath water. After soaking for their usual amount of time, those kids were squeaky clean. (So fresh and so clean every mama’s dream).
From that day forward that was our go-to kid cleaner.
It never crossed my mind to use the same go-to dish detergent for our grown up hygiene needs until our hyper- waster- child had squirted out the last bottle of our way too expensive body wash trying to maintain a world record hang time in bathtub surfing. (Hehe)
We had been outside doing yard work all day. It was like 150 degrees (I’m sure it never quite got that hot but it sure as heck felt like it did and we definitely sweated like it was). Needless to say we were as dirty as 2 pigs in mud and certainly smelled the same.
With no fancy smancy body wash in the house, we turned to old faithful dish detergent (this time it was plain old lemon scented AJAX). And OMG ….this stuff worked amazingly!!
I didn’t think I had ever been so clean! And not to mention, we smelled wonderful…lemony fresh (LOL…that was certainly an improvement over the previous smell).
Think about it ladies … you can get a bottle of lemon scent AJAX dish detergent at Wal-Mart for about 82 cents (even cheaper if you can find a coupon…heck yeah). It lasts the same amount of washes as that $6.00 bottle of body wash we talked about earlier. Don’t you see the savings here?
Never again allow the body washes to rule your budget! Next time you are in the cleaning isle …. Go ahead and grab you up a few cheap bottles of dish detergent and try it out for yourself. I promise you will be happy with the results (not to mention … just as clean if not cleaner than the person next to you that spent $6 on their fancy smancy expensive body wash).
